I have an old desk I bought for a grand total of $3 at my niece’s garage sale. It’s red and black, the black part being a chalkboard surface. I fell in love with it and took it home, seeing the potential of this oddly attractive piece of furniture in my favourite colours.
It is housed in my living room and has served, amongst other things, to greet my granddaughter when she comes to visit. I leave her a message and then she leaves one for me.
“Where’s the chalk, Grandma”, she said shortly after arriving. “Where it usually is”, I said, “in the bottom drawer”, and she got busy making a message for me. It’s a nice low tech tradition. 😉
She also loves the swivel chair I found in a used furniture store one time and bought just for her. I snapped a pic and we marveled how much she had grown since the last time I had taken a video of her spinning around on it yelling loudly! She’s quite the young lady now!
We also got out all the musical instruments. There was my guitar, the recorder, and my keyboard.
She tried her hand at each one, finally favoring the piano. What she played, after a fun start, sounded so beautiful! I took some pics and made a little video.
Then it was time for Grandma’s buttons. I had added some new ones so we had fun sorting through them and gather like kinds into piles on the table, ’til our brains were a little addled.
Then it was time to veg out on the iPad. Technology wins, I guess! But we had a fun day! 😉
I love my granddaughter!

It IS fun. It’s a natural for me, bring a teacher most of my years.
I’ve always had a chalkboard in some form. I used to have a big one in my home and I would put a bible verse on it weekly. It was read lots by visitors and often commented on, or became a conversation starter. It helped me memories too, as I saw and read it every day.
It could be used for sayings of any kind…..
