Day 7 of Proverbs

Day 7 of Proverbs, March 31, 2013

Proverbs 7

Again I am reminded how important it is to KNOW God’s word, the scripture, especially when I might be tempted to immorality.

“Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, [and] for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God’s will in thought, purpose, and action), ” (2 Timothy 3:16 AMP)

In this chapter, I’m given a word picture of an immoral woman enticing a young man to come to her house since her husband is away. She “flatters with her words”. It says “Her house is the way to hell, descending to the chambers of death” and that “she has cast down many wounded, and all who were slain by her were strong men”, though the young man in the story is described as a man “devoid of understanding.”

The scenario could easily be reversed and we could be talking about an immoral man enticing a vulnerable woman. The result would be much the same. A life ruined. Perhaps several lives affected.

Sex outside the confines of commitment creates many problems. It’s not built on a good foundation. There is always a lack of trust. There is often deceit, unfaithfulness and painful consequences.

I know I want to hear those beautiful words. My heart aches to belong, even for a moment. Any one of us can be easily misled if our needs are not being met and we are hungry for love or sexual satisfaction. I know this has been true at times in my own life. I’ve been there. I’ve been deceived.

However, God is able. He CAN and WILL meet every need as I give it over to Him. He can fulfill my EVERY need. ALL my needs. That’s why the promises are there. That’s what we need to know. I know it to be true. I’ve been there. And He has shown me.

If He says it, He will do it. He can enable me to conquer temptations, to have victory over sin, if I am willing to put Him FIRST……but I need to be able to do that. That’s the first step.

Am I willing to DO that?
Is my life in a place where I can say that this is true?
Am I willing to trust Him to provide?
Where is my focus?

Tough questions, but telling ones!

“You will guard him and keep him in perfect and constant peace whose mind [both its inclination and its character] is stayed on You, because he commits himself to You, leans on You, and hopes confidently in You. “(Isaiah 26:3 AMP)

That’s a PROMISE!

Food for thought…….. ❤

Thank you, Ann. I am grateful for your thoughts about Proverbs 7. I liked what you said about how we can be deceived. All of us have been at one time or another. Also, I enjoyed the scripture Isaiah 26:3. We commit ourselves to God. God is there for us. He’s got our back. Thanks,
    Dale
