Day 30, An Attitude of Gratitude
Dec 30, 2012
Today, I am thankful for the new year coming!
It’s a wonderful opportunity that we have every year to bring things to a place of closure, or at least to put things into perspective, if we cannot get closure, and to be able to think about how things could change.
I like the way that TV and magazines do a recap of the year, letting us see what kind of things took place over the year. That is helpful to me. I like to have my memory jogged about all the events that have gone by.
I can also think about the events in my own life, changes that happened, successes and failures, joys and sorrows and what I learned as a result. That is also very helpful for me, both in giving me some perspective and in helping me plan some new goals and directives for the future.
I liked what we did at Converge Church today when we got into small groups and discussed what God had been doing in our lives over the year. Looking at things from that kind of viewpoint is enlightening. We need to be able to see things from an eternal perspective, so that we can better understand what God is showing us and teaching us.
I’m aware that some are suffering right now. I’m not trying to say here that everything is all roses along the way. I know it’s not.
I have things going on that are not pleasant and I know some of you are having difficulty in one way or another. It grieves me that things are not right for you.
The thing I AM saying is that in any circumstances, we can choose to find things for which to be thankful and that is what I want to do. It’s not helpful for me to dwell on the negative things in my own life. It’s more useful and healthy for me to think on whatever is good in my life, despite the other stuff.
I really do have so much to be thankful for and no really good reason to complain when I have life and breath, a home, food, family and friends. God’s word reminds me how to change my thinking when I am having trouble.
“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.” (Philippians 4:8 NKJV)
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” ( 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NKJV)
Our year is coming to a close. God bless you as you give everything over to Him in your situation. Don’t forget to be thankful for the good stuff. It helps!
Love and prayers……..
