Day 27, An Attitude of Gratitude. Dec. 27, 2012
Today I am thankful for the country I choose to live in, Canada. I came to Canada from Scotland, the country of my birth, in 1972. 1 was 23 years young, and have remained here, married here, and had my children here. I have enjoyed my life experiences in Canada, from my first impressions of how BIG everything was, in the Toronto area, (8-lane highways) to life in the tiny, isolated First Nations community of Kyuquot. It has been my choice to stay in this country and build my life here. I hitchhiked across Canada in the summer of 1973, for the most part on my own, just to find out how big it actually was (it seemed like almost EVERYONE was doing that in those days) I discovered it’s a very BIG country!!!!!! 😉 I had arrived initially in Toronto straight from Scotland, and then moved to Vancouver in B.C., before finally settling on the west coast of Vancouver Island for many years. That was where I worked as a teacher, came to know God, and served in ministry among the First Nations people, my husband’s people. I have been home to Scotland only three times in these last 40 years.
My birth country still holds much attraction for me, but my life is here and my chosen citizenship is with the people of Kyuquot, as part of their Treaty process. I’m thankful that this country has received me and embraced me and that I belong here. I believe it was part of God’s plan for my life. However, my TRUE citizenship is neither in Scotland, nor in Canada, and not even in Kyuquot, but with my Father in heaven, in my eternal home.
I am looking forward to going off to that country someday to stay there permanently, and to finally meeting there my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, in person, and reuniting with friends and family who are already over there! “What a day that will be, when my Jesus I shall see…”, as my husband and I used to sing together. What a day that will be! “For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, “(Philippians 3:20 NKJV) In the meantime, I thank God today for this country I live in, Canada!
