Today I am thankful for the gift of song. I’ve always loved to sing, from when I was a young child, with my Mom at home, or out in the yard with the other neighbour kids (we had a little choir), or with Salvation Army uncles and cousins whenever they would visit.
One of my earliest memories is of my Grandpa, singing his heart out to the Lord at 6:00 am in the morning while shining his shoes! That was something to hear!
Both my Mom and Dad loved to sing. I have very fond memories of my Mom singing hymns and of my Dad, with one hand over his heart and the other flung out wide, singing his heart out in a love song to my Mom.
I loved singing in the classroom with the kids all my teaching years. Such pleasure. Such fun!
I loved leading song worship at the church with my husband and I really miss those precious times. Lately, I’ve been able to sing at the Lighthouse at lunchtimes and I am finding my voice again after a long time of just not singing.
Tonight a group of us sang at WalMart with the Salvation Army Kettle, and that was precious. People were smiling, singing along and some stopped to enjoy. Some said they could hear us throughout the store! A little girl who was crying found her smile and her laughter when we sang Jingle Bells to her 🙂
There is something very special and beautiful about music and song. It was given for us to enjoy and to bring enjoyment and also to worship God. He loves to hear our voices singing in praise!
Father, thank you for a voice to sing!
