Day 8 of Proverbs

Day 8 of Proverbs

You don’t have to look very far for wisdom. The proverb tells us that wisdom is readily available, even crying out for you to listen. Do we listen?

Wisdom speaks righteousness and truth plainly. Nothing material this world has to offer can be compared to the riches of wisdom. The fruits of wisdom in a life are of more value than silver and gold.

“I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, And find out knowledge and discretion. “(Proverbs 8:12 NKJV)

Great character and integrity come with wisdom. These things are to be valued: prudence, knowledge and discretion. So often not the way of this world we live in today.

“Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom; I am understanding, I have strength.”(Proverbs 8:14 NKJV)

Great strength and understanding are found to be found in wisdom. Wisdom takes its time and stands strong and true in this “instant” world of ours.

How will we hear the wisdom of God if we don’t take time apart from all the clamouring voices of the world urging us to self gratification NOW? This “noise” only serves to weaken us and take us far from God and wisdom.

Listen to verses 12-31. They tell us the story of God and wisdom.

“The Lord possessed me at the beginning of His way,
Before His works of old. I have been established from everlasting,
From the beginning, before there was ever an earth.
When there were no depths I was brought forth,
When there were no fountains abounding with water.
Before the mountains were settled, Before the hills, I was brought forth; While as yet He had not made the earth or the fields,
Or the primal dust of the world.
When He prepared the heavens, I was there,
When He drew a circle on the face of the deep,
When He established the clouds above,
When He strengthened the fountains of the deep,
When He assigned to the sea its limit, So that the waters would not transgress His command,
When He marked out the foundations of the earth,
Then I was beside Him as a master craftsman;
And I was daily His delight,
Rejoicing always before Him, Rejoicing in His inhabited world,
And my delight was with the sons of men.”
(Proverbs 8:14, 22-31 NKJV)

We get so caught up in the dailyness of our lives that we forget these timeless truths about God and His creation. How wonderful to be reminded today of how God and wisdom go hand in hand since the beginning!

Apart from God, we have no wisdom. Psalm 14 tells us this strong truth:

“The fool has said in his heart,
There is no God.”
They are corrupt,
They do abominable works,
There is none who does good.” (Psalms 14:1 NKJV)

That is a picture of a life without God, without wisdom. A sorry state indeed. A picture of rebellion against all that is wise and good. Is that where we are?

However, back in Proverbs verse 32-35, we see a different picture, a life blessed with the knowledge of God and lived in His wisdom.

“Now therefore, listen to me, my children,
For blessed are those who keep my ways.
Hear instruction and be wise,
And do not disdain it.
Blessed is the man who listens to me,
Watching daily at my gates,
Waiting at the posts of my doors.
For whoever finds me finds life,
And obtains favor from the Lord;” (Proverbs 8:32-35 NKJV)

That is wisdom!

That is LIFE!!

Wisdom calls……will we take the time to listen today?
