Whenever you do something outside of a community’s morale, either because you are ill or simply because you are human, it can have a profound impact on your place in this community. If this subculture is religious and has contained your family and a great deal of your network, the effects can be devastating. We – many of us, looking from the outside in – see what happens when people who are in the public eye lose face as a result of faulty thinking and poor decision making and it is easy, sitting around a bar, a breakfast table, a coffee shop, to jump on the band wagon for a bit of punishment.
