Well, I’m having to “move”!!!! UGH!!!!
The thing is, I’m not even going anywhere. Figure THAT one out!
Some of us moved into units in our building that had been carpeted with a certain type of carpet that has proven to be detrimental to the state of our health. It is a loose weave with a backing that disintegrates and then comes up through the weave into the air in a fine dust.
One lady is very sick, being more susceptible due to existing health conditions. I have struggled with congestion, allergy type symptoms, itchy eyes and other problems since I moved into this unit. Visiting friends have had similar problems when staying over. I’m used to seasonal allergies, but not a year round problem.
It took me a long time, in my rebellious state, to think about starting. I did NOT want to do this. Not at all. But it had to be done. Living room, dining room and bedroom must be emptied out entirely and our things lined along the hallway so that they can remove the carpet and then replace it.
My pastor’s wife came by two days ago and gave me a bit of a kickstart. Progress was made packing. Lots of knick-knacks were stowed, surfaces cleared and books packed away. Pretty cool! So thankful for the help and encouragement! It was fun to visit while doing stuff
(Surfaces and shelves looking a little bare now)
The demon of procrastination was dealt a deathly blow, finally! I saw that it could be done, and fairly quickly too. VICTORY!
A neighbour came by yesterday and today to take packed totes away to his place for storage. That has been so helpful! It’s much better not to have it sitting all over. It looks like progress.
I’ve been on my own for the rest of the day, sorting and stowing. I can see the end in sight. Now it is mainly furniture that has to line the hallway. Some of the smaller stuff can be stored in the kitchen and bathroom.
The lady across the hall who is so unwell is having her carpet replaced today and the hallway is lined with her unit contents. She is sitting outside reading while they work.
I think they may come to my place tomorrow. If not , it will be the unit next door and then my place the next day. I should be ready for tomorrow anyway!
The great thing about all this is that we should all be better off and able to breathe easier. This carpet is a tighter weave and will have a proper underlay, unlike the other, which had the foamy backing simply glued to the floor as it was. The carpet was a very light colour and it did not look good for very long. It did not wear well.
The new carpet, however, is darker in colour. Much sturdier. It’s going to look nicer and keep so much better. It doesn’t have any of the nasty disintegrating foam backing on it. This is the positive side of all the CHAOS!!!!
(It has some pretty flecks of colour in it, if you look closely!)
There IS light at the end of this tunnel! 😉

Gosh, you’d think since they’d used sub-standard material the management would have paid to have everyone packed up. But at least you’re ready and you’ll have your new carpet soon!

Not much time for weeding this time. I did do a tiny bit anyway as I went.
