Just realizing what a circus of noise this place I live in is turning out to be today.
They are ripping out and replacing all of the porches, porch doors and windows in our building, so there is daily pounding, hammering, drilling and sawing that has been matter of course for the last week or so as they work on the other side of the building. Improvements, they say. I guess they will be right out here working on my porch soon enough, when they begin fixing our side.
Some volunteers are building a pergola for shade down in our courtyard, and they are there today, so that’s hammering, sawing and a noisy pneumatic drill of some sort. It’s probably going to be lovely to have, at some point, and much appreciated. It’s just noisy below me whenever they have the time to come and work on it.
This very morning, someone somewhere decided our fire alarms need testing, and there have been several irregular loud burps of strident fire alarm to add to the general cacophony.
There is also the persistent hum of some big truck maybe parked somewhere nearby. I cannot see where it is. I can just hear it.
Now a fellow just knocked on my door to test the heat and smoke alarms in my hallway. Noisy, but apparently in good working order.
What a crazy morning!
What a symphony of sound!
