I like my church.
It’s a new church, a fairly new church plant in my current town. A lot of people much younger than myself, young families and many young kids, which is refreshing.
There is no building. It started in a home and now people meet in the community hall, portable everything, fold away chairs and tables etc. Shared food and fellowship.
Our pastor is a young man with a heart for the Lord and for people. He preaches the truth in a dialogical fashion, so the congregation gets to participate. He uses a whiteboard and draws interesting things to illustrate some point of his message. He’s firmly and solidly based in the truth of God’s word.
The assistant pastor is also a young man who is on fire for the Lord with a passion. His Australian twang and boldness, along with his particular style of music, make for surprising presentations.
Our church breaks into smaller groups, called Gospel Communities, during the week where we share bible truth together and try to apply these truths to our lives. Friendships are built and prayers shared around tea/coffee and some goodies.
During the better weather, our church gets outside for meetings, shared food and fellowship and camping opportunities. The church is mission and outreach minded, which is a good thing. We all need to be sharing the good news of the gospel.
This morning I took a friend from my building along to church and she enjoyed her visit. I had to explain the way we do communion, because it’s a little different. The wine and bread are left on a table and people go when they are ready, individually or in groups, as friends, as couples or as families, and partake of the elements and pray alone or together. My friend and I enjoyed communion together.
I hope y’all have a church you enjoy…….feel free to share below!

Ann, it’s so great that you like your church. We had a church we really liked, too, and then there was dissention and we unfortunately left to get away from some nastiness. I do miss that church, even today.

Sorry that happened to you, but It does happen, even in very small churches, and I’ve experienced it. It’s very sad when brothers and sisters in the family of God can’t get along as they are they are meant to, but you know, it’s a family dynamic and earthly families don’t always get along well either. We don’t like what someone says or does and then we don’t want to see them any more. It’s too uncomfortable.
I think face to face fellowship can be the hardest thing and it’s where the “rubber” of our Christianity neets the “road”. It’s where we get a chance to exercise our ability to practice brotherly love and our faith in the goodness of a loving God in all kinds of circumstances.
I’m not saying it always works out. I’m saying we have opportunity to learn and grow, and to practice love and forgiveness. It helps me to think that we will spend eternity together as brothers and sisters if we love God.
It makes it more important to keep short accounts, to reconcile whenever and wherever we can, though unfortunately reconciliation is not always possible between two imperfect people. I know, because I am one of them and I have my struggles.
Hope springs eternal through the work of the cross and by the power of the Holy Spirit, and that is what keeps me going. God is good and God is able. I just need to be willing.
