In my Scottish background, Christmas began just before Christmas Day, and ended January 6, the twelve days of Christmas, known to us as “Little Christmas”. We decorated just prior to Christmas and took down tree and decor after Jan 6. 

Sometimes we did not have a tree. I remember one year collecting branches or twigs, painting them white, and adding hand made decor, paper chains etc for our “tree”.

Later on in life, having my young grandchild to visit, we made a “Charlie Brown” tree out of a twig decoration i had on my kitchen counter.
