I can’t believe I didn’t post this! It may have been during Covid days. Anyway, here it is now, finally published on this last day of 2024!!
Hope George is still in business!!!
I have a few more pics to add later, but this will suffice for now….
An unassuming store front, but very popularly attended, nonetheless. One friend of mine said she had been eating there for 50 years (ever since it opened, in other words)!!!
George’s Food Bar is given a very good mention in the Vancouver Island Book of Musts, The 101 Places Every Islander MUST See……

This little book is a handy little compendium of things to see in my locale. A friend and I decided to see how many places we can visit, and these trips will be the “food” for my travel blog.
Here is the write up on George’s Food Bar:

This is George. He is very focused, does not say much at all and barely looks at you.
You give your order.
He writes nothing but immediately starts making your order.
He has many previous orders on the grill.
He comes to the window occasionally and waves or points at particular individuals, even if they went back to wait in their car, because he has their order ready.

He has remembered both the customer who ordered and exactly what was ordered, even if it happened to be a multiple order (I saw him remember an order for a group of three while I was waiting)
He has already figured the cost in his head.
He is AMAZING!
Service is fast.
Food is good.
Burgers or Chinese food.
Cash only.
No regular hours.
Opens when the spirit moves, apparently (took us a few days to catch him open).
People come from all over, far and near, just to eat out of this unassuming food bar.
Glad we got to go!
Glad it jogged your memory…..
