Goodbye 67. Hello 68!

So now I’m 68.
Just like that.
I’m amazed I am still here….

It was my birthday on Thursday and I am writing this on Saturday. I have not blogged for a while. Life has just been a bit hard around here and I slipped into a small pool of depression.

 

 

There have been deaths in my Kyuquot family. Two dear ones left this world on the same day, a brother and a sister, both with cancer. They had a double wedding, many double anniversaries, and then passed away within minutes of each other. It was a double funeral.

 

 

 

Another fellow had slipped away a few weeks before this, and three more I know of are dealing with cancer, one young man who has been given only a week or two to live. These events have affected me deeply.

Then my birthday arrived. A new friend in the building called me up and said she wanted to take me out for lunch. We went to Ricky’s. It was a lovely treat.

 

 

My youngest son called to wish me happy birthday. That was nice.

Another friend stopped by with a brightly boxed gift of body sprays. Another lovely treat.

 

 

 

A good friend of mine, a soul mate, a dear Christian sister, came to stay with me, arriving here on the eve of my birthday. She came bearing her sunny personality, her zany zest for life and her sisterly concern, as well as some gifts.

She whisked me off to the movies. We saw “Sing”. I wasn’t sure I would enjoy what she said was an adult cartoon, but it had a lovely message and some fine singing. We ate popcorn and a chocolate bar.

 

 

After the movie, we picked up pizza to munch on at home. We took her two dogs for a late night walk.

 

The next day, after I fixed us breakfast, we took off to go to a local coffee shop. Be very careful how you say the name of this place. Foggduckers. No slips of the tongue, please! I always have to think twice before I tell people where I am going 😉

 

 

While there, I spilled my drink down my front, and, as I was wiping it out of my bra with paper towel, the fellow we had just met, and rather audaciously sat down with, asked if I needed some help. I declined his offer as graciously as I could. Hehe. Turns out he was an artist, like my friend. He got my friend’s phone number and only my name, Haha! My oldest boy called me while we were there and I was busy talking to him. We had a real nice chat. That was special. I don’t often get to talk to him.;)

 

 

 

We had dinner at home, and a chic flick before bedime. A nice love story, ith a happy ending. If only life was like that.

 

We got to talk, catch up a bit, after a quick breakfast the next morning. It was good time. Our visits lately have not been conducive to such heart to heart chats.

 

 

My friend Eva is a bit of a whirlwind. She swirled into my subdued life and then she swirled out, leaving me slightly dazed, but happy. It was such a nice visit and it gave me a much needed boost.

 

 

So, my new year, my 68th year has begun and I go into it with more enthusiasm and determination than I had on the leaving of my 67th year. I had a good talk with God about things prior to my birthday and I knew things needed to change. I got some concrete direction from prayer. There are some things to get my teeth into.

 

 

With the bolstering of some good friends, and a much needed word or two with my Lord, I am finally up for the challenge. I’m looking forward to being 68!
