Ann’s Corner
I was just at another blog, trying to describe my own blog for a post there, and suddenly I remembered how I thought of the name, Ann’s Corner. I’ve used this title for several different spaces over the years, hoping to provide a “sanctuary” or safe place, to bring some light into some dark corners of life and I almost forgot where the idea originally came from. I was reminded today that it was inspired by an old hymn called “Brighten the Corner Where You Are”.
Here is a link to the song sung by Burl Ives:

Brighten the Corner Where You Are
Do not wait until some deed of greatness you may do,
Do not wait to shed your light afar;
To the many duties ever near you now be true,
Brighten the corner where you are.
-
- Refrain:
Brighten the corner where you are!
Brighten the corner where you are!
Someone far from harbor you may guide across the bar;
Brighten the corner where you are!
- Just above are clouded skies that you may help to clear,
Let not narrow self your way debar;
Though into one heart alone may fall your song of cheer,
Brighten the corner where you are.
- Here for all your talent you may surely find a need,
Here reflect the bright and Morning Star;
Even from your humble hand the Bread of Life may feed,
Brighten the corner where you are.

Thanks, OM, and happy you took the time to visit my corner 🙂
You do have inspiration for your blog name. It’s who you are. Opinionated Man. It’s about your opinions, of which there are many 😉 😛
I enjoy the variety and the no holds barred honesty. There is much in your writing to jog the thoughts of the reader. Lots of helps for new bloggers as well.
Thanks for helping me get started. I appreciate it.

Hi,
I remember Burl Ives. He was the snowman in Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, the voice anyway.
Thank you so much for following my blog. Welcome!

Just think how beautiful the world would be if we’d all just brighten our own little corners. A boy can dream, I guess. 🙂

I remember that song! We used to listen to Burl Ives and dance around the living room, my sibs and I, before we were “cool.” Then there’s the bluegrass tune, “Keep on the Sunny Side of Life.” Great inspiration!
